Massage Services

Remedial massage is a physical therapy which enables the body to return to and/ or maintain its natural state of health. Through manipulation of the soft tissue, Remedial massage reduces muscle tension, helps remove toxins from muscles, calms the peripheral nervous system to ease pain and discomfort, improves joint mobility, and assists in the repairing and health of cells and tissues.

By conducting a full body assessment, we can best decide what to treat, how to treat, and how long to treat for. Using slow strokes and static pressure, we target the deep layers of muscles and tissue to alleviate contracted and dysfunctional areas. These types of deep tissue techniques are used to target specific problems associated with physical fatigue, postural conditions, RSI, workplace and sporting injuries and chronic muscular pain. Some of the more common conditions are frozen shoulder, tennis elbow, whiplash, scoliosis, headaches and arthritis. Our therapists will happily talk you through the techniques they use such as, manual stretching, trigger point therapy, soft tissue work, PrT’s, MET’s and of course deep tissue massage.

Remedial massage is also a great tool for body maintenance. With regular massage, our bloods oxygen capacity can increase by 10-15%. The Lymphatic system becomes more efficient, muscle tone and health increases, faster recovery from activity, blood pressure lowers, immune system boosts, and even our skin becomes more healthy. With all these benefits of regular remedial massage, it’s no surprise that pain, fatigue and injuries are reduced. In short, prevention is better than cure.

Sports Massage

Whether you are a professional athlete, or just like to keep active, sports massage will help you achieve optimum level performance from your muscles. Sports massage is often confused with deep tissue massage, and although deep tissue techniques are used, sports massage works hand in hand with the individuals routine. Whether that be a training, competitive or performance routine. There are three components to sports massage; Pre-event, Post-event and maintenance.

Pre-event treatments entail quick, energetic techniques used to enhance an athlete’s preparation for an event. This increases circulation, stimulates the muscles, increasing flexibility and range of motion. In turn any pain or soreness is reduced and the athlete more prepared for their performance.

Post-event treatments are more calming and are used to aid muscles in returning to their natural state. Circulation is increased and directed to aid in the removal of toxins and prevent muscle soreness, fatigue and spasm. A post-event massage can help bring down levels of adrenaline whilst speeding up recovery time.

Maintenance treatments are regular treatments at a set interval within an individuals training regime. Through these treatments our therapists work with you to monitor and treat any potential problems as they arise, preventing injury.

Unfortunately, sometimes injuries happen, and when they do we also offer a Sports injury management and rehabilitation service.

Sports Injury Management & Rehabilitation

Recovering from a sports injury, surgery, or any injury, can sometimes be a long and painful process. The fastest road to recovery is through good management and a rehabilitation program.

The human body is quite remarkable, and has a an amazing ability to heal itself. However, some of the bodies methods, such as scar tissue and mechanical compensation, are a short term solution at best. At Benni Leeks Massage we help to guide the bodies natural healing ability through massage, exercise, stretching and advise.

As Injuries can be vastly different in severity and distinction, so too can our involvement in your rehabilitation program. Before any treatment is offered or assigned, our therapists will conduct a full assessment in order to ascertain what the injury is, and how best, or who best to treat it. Owing to the complexities of the human body and how it works, sometimes an injury is best treated by a particular health practitioner. For this reason, we have an extensive referral network of trusted practitioners, including Physiotherapists, Chiropractors, Osteopaths, Podiatrists, Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioners, and Doctors.

Of course just as we may refer you to another health practitioner, other health practitioners may send you to us. With many years experience working with other therapists to help clients achieve their goals, we will happily liaise with your health professionals and take the next step with your existing rehabilitation program.

Myofascial Release

Fascia is the continuous network of connective tissue which holds our body together, providing us with form, cohesion, separation and support. Any deformity in our fascia can not only adversely affect the surrounding structures, but due to its continuity, can also be responsible for transferring stresses to distant locations. These stresses can then become mechanical disturbances(restricted motion) or pain referral. Unlike the deep tissue techniques of remedial or sports massage, myofascial release is a much more gentle form of therapy. When treating the fascia, our therapists will work with a gentle tensile force, administered over a long period of time, starting from the most superficial layers gradually sinking deeper. There may also be some more targeted pressure throughout the treatment to break up adhesions(knots) and deactivate trigger points.

Like the rest of our body, fascia is happiest and healthiest when it is well hydrated. So remember to drink plenty of water, especially after a treatment.
